A/B Workout Rotation Schedule
An A/B rotation is a simple two-workout program: you alternate Workout A and Workout B. The challenge is that it does not always line up with a Monday–Sunday week. Re:Do’s “Every X days” scheduling is a clean fit.
Two ways to schedule A/B rotations
- Alternate every day: A/B/A/B… (useful for short skill sessions)
- Alternate with recovery days: A/rest/B/rest… (common for harder sessions)
Option 1: alternate every day (A/B/A/B)
- Create (or open) Workout A and Workout B
- Schedule Workout A as Every X days with interval 2
- Set Workout A start date to Day 1 (for example Monday)
- Schedule Workout B as Every X days with interval 2
- Set Workout B start date to Day 2 (the next day)
- (Optional) set an end date for both schedules if you want a fixed-length block
Option 2: alternate with recovery days (A/rest/B/rest)
Use a 4-day interval and offset the start dates by 2 days.
- Schedule Workout A as Every X days with interval 4
- Set Workout A start date to Day 1 (for example Monday)
- Schedule Workout B as Every X days with interval 4
- Set Workout B start date to Day 3 (two days later, for example Wednesday)
Example sequence (Option 2, starting Monday)
- Mon = A
- Wed = B
- Fri = A
- Sun = B
- Tue = A
- Thu = B
This is a rolling pattern (not tied to the week), so the weekdays shift over time while the A/B rhythm stays consistent.
Why this works
Using the same interval for both workouts, but offsetting the start dates, creates a clean alternating A/B pattern. It stays consistent even when the week boundary changes.
Common mistakes
- Wrong offsets: if the start dates are not offset, both workouts land on the same days.
- Start date off: the whole rotation shifts if you anchor on the wrong day.
- Weekly schedule instead of intervals: weekly works for fixed weekdays, intervals work for rolling cycles.
